Intensive Grandmothering? Exploring the Changing Nature of Grandmothering in the Context of Changes to Parenting Culture

This article explores the ways in which intensification of parenting and notion children at risk have influenced grandmothers’ narratives practices. Interviews with grandmothers who regularly look after their grandchildren, reveal that practices are framed around notions to be protected, educated entertained. Such aspects roles as protectors, educators, playmates confidants involved negotiations parents ideal ‘putting child first’. The argues intensive has grandmothering but way this is enacted reveals resistance certain parenting.
